Starting on the first of January, 2017, all Dutch Railways trains will be powered solely by sustainable wind energy. All of the daily 1,200,000 train journeys in the Netherlands will be free of CO2 emissions. This is a global first! The Netherlands is the only country in the world where all the trains run on renewable energy. How can we communicate this tremendous news to the rest of the world?
The head of the Dutch Railways, CEO Roger van Boxtel, announced via a personal video that all of the Dutch trains will be 100% powered by wind energy. This video, seen on YouTube and Facebook, shows Van Boxtel hanging from one of the sails of a windmill. He was demonstrating the terrific force of wind power and at the same time promoting the use of renewable energy.
The video was nationally and internationally the ‘talk of the town’. On the Dutch Railways media channels and paid media channels the video reached 1.7 million viewers. The total of online viewers was 9.5 million. There was a national television broadcast in addition to the online announcement.
